Ten candidates, four contested races - split evenly between two parties.
That's the extent of today's election in Monroe County.
Results of the four primary contests will help shape the slate of municipal elections in the fall.
Even before the ballots come in tonight, one thing is sure: Change is coming to the Bloomington City Council.
Without an incumbent in either of the contested council races, at least two new faces will join the nine-member body Jan. 1.
Only city and town seats are up for grabs this go-around, so voters must live in Bloomington or Ellettsville to vote.
Here's the breakdown of contested races:
Bloomington mayor
Republicans: Jamie Lober and David Sabbagh.
Bloomington City Council, District 3
Democrats: Mike Satterfield and Martin Spechler.
Bloomington City Council, District 5
Democrats: Jack Baker, Craig Harvey and Isabel Piedmont.
Ellettsville Town Council, Ward 3
Republicans: Lisa Combs-Creech, Brian Mobley and Scott Oldham.
In both Bloomington council races, newcomers are vying for a spot on the fall ballot in hopes of winning a four-year term that starts next year.
Democrat Mike Diekhoff is not seeking re-election to District 3 after serving the eastside district for eight years.
District 5 is also open, creating a three-way Democratic primary race for the seat now represented by Republican David Sabbagh. Today's winner will face Republican Alicia Graves in the fall election.
Sabbagh, who is serving his third term on the council, is running for mayor. He also has competition today in the Republican primary, where he faces Jamie Lober.
Whoever wins today will face incumbent Mayor Mark Kruzan. He is seeking a second term and is unchallenged in the Democratic primary.
